June, 2010

NewsNotes – Welcome to our early summer edition of NewsNotes. We hope you are reading them and finding them informative. Please let us know if there are topics or features you’d like included.

Current Count - As of June 7, 2010 there are 1159 courts (including parking) using our programs. In early May, 2010 Impact/Admit made the decision to focus on their police software and discontinue supporting their court program. All courts using the Impact court program received letters from both Impact and Service Education informing them of this decision and offering them The CourtRoom Program. Since May 11, 2010 we have installed 13 Impact courts as well as 3 brand new courts. The installation process includes converting the Impact court data to The CourtRoom Program format, installing The CourtRoom Program and training the clerks and judges. Most of the remaining Impact/Admit court customers have scheduled installation dates for later this month. We are very thankful for the ability to do the whole process remotely. If we had to make onsite visits to all of those courts, it would probably take 6 months to a year. We are looking forward to meeting the new users at User Group meetings or trainings during the coming year.

User Group Meetings – Please check the website for a list of locations for the remaining 2010 User Group meetings and conferences we’ll be attending. As the meetings get firmed up, we’ll be adding contact information so you can call to RSVP for the meeting(s) you’ll be attending. Also go online and check the schedule a day or two before the meeting. A condensed version of the Power Point presentation will be available for you to print and bring to the meeting.

New Letters to Download – There are no significant changes to any letters. However, if you are using an old version (prior to December, 2009) of the Orders of Protection, both family and non family, you should import the new versions. There are important changes in the newer versions.

New Forms to Download -

655 A new version of the TSLED ticket. A problem existed when letters were printed at the same time the as etickets. If you had pages printing over each other, you need to update this form.

What’s new in the CourtRoom Program? - The last month has seen numerous changes to the program. As of this NewsNotes, the current version of the program is 1.10.05E. Some of the changes fix glitches and some of them are new features, many of which have been requested by users.

New Features

Added the option to delete archived letters when a case is reset to 'Like New' or the courtday record is reset.

Scanning barcodes now works while in the 'Calendar View' – if you have printed a calendar with barcodes, you can view the calendar on the screen and scan the printed calendar to access the case. The barcode function will return to the Calendar View function when completed.

A new edition of the Law Dictionary provided by the State is included in this update. (Coded Law file dated 05/03/2010)

The 'Electronic Filing Affidavit' can now be used to report on months with 'No Activity'. Remember, each Judge must file an 'Audit Report' with the Justice Court Fund every month, even if there was no money received or no cases were heard.

Added new options for courts that do not have criminal or civil jurisdiction to hide the 'Criminal Case' and 'Civil Case' options while adding new cases.

The following items are fixes to glitches that have shown up recently. If you are experiencing any of these problems, please get an update.

Fixed a problem with the Plea by Mail Screen - Some dismissed charges were losing the disposition code when sending letters or selecting the DMV Data screen

Reduced the size of the 'Preview Screen' back to the size it was before version 1.10.04C.

Fixed a problem on the Plea by Mail Screen - Cases with multiple charges were sometimes losing the charge speed detail.

Fixed a problem with printer margins introduced with version 1.10.4D.

What’s new on the SEi Website? - Under the Meetings Tab or the Help tab you can access the Power Point presentation from a recent User Group Meeting. It highlights many of the new features in the program.

Remember, the website can be accessed through the CourtRoom Program by clicking HELP->Website Links- >Service Education Website or from your browser www.nycourts.us. The website is updated frequently, so be sure to check it on a regular basis.

Closing - We hope you are enjoying these NewsNotes. They’re meant to keep you informed on what’s happening at SEi and with The CourtRoom Program. If you have any topics you’d like addressed, or suggestions for future NewsNotes, please email marty@nycourts.us.

Hope you all have a great summer and please, come to the User Group meeting near you! We’ll also be at the conference in Potsdam, so be sure to look for us there.
